The Difference Between inpatient and Outpatient Drug and Alcohol Rehab
What is Drug Rehab? Drug rehab is basically a program that persons who are suffering from drug addictions go in to receive clean and sober and rehabilitation. Usually, it requires courage on the part of an addict to admit that they have a dependency problem and therefore need to go into drug rehab to cure it. A person addicted to drugs should get this information from his or her health care provider or from the family doctor.

There are several reasons why an addict may turn to drugs and alcohol. Inpatient Drug Rehab – Inpatient treatment at a drug rehab center includes group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. Group therapy help people understand each other and build support.
Outpatient Treatment – Inpatient treatment at a drug rehab facility includes all the group therapies, individual therapies and family therapies. The patient should go home on his own. When the patient does not go home, the staff takes the patient to the residential treatment facility until he has fully recovered. Some of the common ways to treat drug addicts are inpatient, outpatient or inpatient rehab facility. An inpatient treatment will take the patient away from home for a period longer than a week.
Outpatient drug rehab program – In an outpatient drug rehab program, the patients don’t go home to stay for a period of time. However, they can go home when they feel ready to come out. Sometimes it may be a week, but often times it may be a month. The outpatient program focuses on the substance abuse. It may include some or all of the following aspects of inpatient drug rehab: Individual therapy, group therapy, psychotherapy, support groups, detoxification, education, relapse prevention and follow up.
Drug and alcohol rehabs try to help people get on with their lives. Many people take addiction seriously and consider it a serious affliction. For those who relapse, a 12-step approach to recovery is usually used. Most people who go through treatment services are able to stay sober and lead productive and meaningful lives as they reach their goal of sobriety. With the right combination of therapy, medication, support, and behavioral and lifestyle changes, many people find themselves feeling much better than when they entered the facility.
